GRA hosts International Commercial Arbitration event
for the second time in support of
young lawyers and students.
|
As part of its commitment regarding the development of new generations of lawyers engaged in the practice of different areas of international law, GRA was proud to host on Saturday March 14, 2009, the second edition of the Latin American International Commercial Arbitration Premoot. |
| |
|
The event consisted on a series of practice rounds for the academic competition "Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot" same that will be held in Vienna, Austria from April 3, 2009. The practice rounds had the participation of 25 students from the following leading Mexican universities: Universidad Panamericana Campus Mexico City, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, and Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico. |
|
|
Distinguished lawyers of the most prestigious law firms and academic institutions in Mexico and representatives of the Mexican arbitral community attended our event.
Several partners at GRA (some of them active in academic events such as The Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Competition and the 2009 V.C. García Moreno Competition (International Criminal Court), while others are mediators certified by the Mexican Mediation Institute), participated as arbitrators during the premoot hosted by our firm. |
Our associate, Edgar Martínez, will attend the "Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot" in Vienna acting as an arbitrator and coach for the team of Universidad Panamericana Campus Mexico City. |

- “Goodrich Riquelme and Associates is proud of hosting this event for the second time. We are really looking forward to institutionalize the event expecting that every time more and more Latin American universities can be part of it, in order to achieve the principal objective of this effort, which is to instill the international arbitration practice in the new generation of lawyers ”- Edgar Martinez (associate at GRA).
- “We are certain that this event will set a precedent for law firms in Latin America to actively engage in academic events related to International Commercial Arbitration, supporting students which will eventually be part of our legal staff”- Ricardo Lan (senior partner at GRA).
|
These practice rounds represented an invaluable experience for the participating students in order to prepare themselves for the Vienna competition, and the event allowed them to meet other students that will be contending in said Arbitration Moot.
The Latin American Premoot evening ended with a delightful cocktail where students, arbitrators and members of our firm had the chance to share their experience and conclusions about the event.
